TIFF Cinematheque

Featured

“See film the way it’s meant to be seen.” Since 1990 TIFF Cinematheque has been sharing the best in cinema with Toronto audiences. From modern classics, recent restorations, and rare 35mm prints, TIFF Cinematheque brings you the absolute best films from around the world.

In my capacity as Senior Video Producer I was responsible for creating not only marketing materials, but also programme trailers, and original content for our various social channels.

TIFF Cinematheque Brand Trailer

Just prior to the pandemic I was approached by our marketing team to help create a brand trailer to help establish with audiences what exactly TIFF Cinematheque was. The project was put on hold during the shut-down, but upon re-opening we returned to the concept which provided us the opportunity to not only re-launch the brand, but also promote the new “free for members” incentive.

This is TIFF Cinematheque. Cinema’s greatest films, the way they’re meant to be seen.

Scorsese: A Retrospective Programme Trailer

To mark the release of the American master’s highly anticipated new film The Irishman, TIFF presents the first-ever TIFF Cinematheque retrospective of a filmmaker whose entire oeuvre constitutes “one of the source points of modern movies” (Roger Ebert).

I was tasked with creating the trailer, supporting ads for social media, and content for our YouTube channel and other social platforms.

You can watch more of my work from this programme here.

Back to the Big Screen: Spielberg Social Ads

In December of 2018, the TIFF Bell Lightbox ran a retrospective of the great american Blockbuster filmmaker Steven Spielberg. I was tasked with creating the marketing materials to promote the series, including a trailer, social ads, and original interview content.

I wrote and produced these social ads in which we wanted to showcase the spectacle of Spielberg’s films and the importance of seeing them in cinemas on the biggest screen possible.

You can find the trailer along with other content from the series here.

Bergman 100 Programme Trailer

To celebrate the centenary of the great Swedish filmmaker, in October of 2018 TIFF ran a massive retrospective of the films of Ingmar Bergman, and required a number of marketing materials to help promote this massive screening series.

I was responsible for creating the series programme trailer, as well as a number of supplementary materials, which can be found here.

Why JAWS Was the Greatest Accident in the History of Cinema

In addition to our traditional marketing materials, I would also occasionally produce video essays to promote upcoming screenings. I worked with programmer Norm Wilner on this video essay for Steven Spielberg’s Jaws to help promote an upcoming screening hosted by Cinematheque.

Programme Primer: Aspect Ratio

In addition to traditional video essays, we would occasionally produce programme primers for audiences to help introduce them to a programme or series.

In this primer, programmer Adam Piron discusses his series “Aspect Ratio: Indigenous Actors Beyond the Expected,” which explores a history of Indigenous American actors playing ethnically nondescript characters that challenge stereotypical interpretations of Indigeneity and historic assumptions about their placement in film.

I facilitated the remote recording, and produced & edited the final primer.
